This is an interesting map from 1814, though much of Northeast Louisiana looks pretty barren. Interestingly, the river east of the Ouachita river, is labeled Ox River. Boeuf in French, means “bull” or “ox.” This is the only map I’ve seen on that actually uses the word Ox, and not Boeuf.
