Girard Station – Confederate Camp Grounds, Field Hospital, ca 1863

Occasionally I’ve seen notes about a Confederate Civil War camp located at Girard (aka Girard Station), and often referred to as “Camp Taylor.” I think I’ve concluded that it did indeed exist. It appears to have been on the banks of Boeuf River near the railroad, and primarily served as a mobile hospital and staging area for the battles at Milliken’s Bend.

Almost all of the soldiers I found stationed there were from Arkansas. Several cases can be found of soldier deaths while there at Girard, as well as many desertions.
