1916 Tornado Kills 1, Injures Several Near Alto

Thursday night a cyclone pasted 1 through the fourth ward of Richland , parish, killing at least one person, Injuring a number of others, and damaging considerable property, Jeff Davis, a colored tenant on the McDonald place, was killed and his wife and child injured when the house in I which they lived was blown down. Several persons were injured and a number of houses blown down in the Brown neighborhood near Alto. The path of the cyclone proper was not over a hundred yards wide, but the electrical storm and high wind extended over the entire parish.

A terrible electrical and rain storm, followed by a hurricane, passed northwest of Mangham. La., last night, causing one death and serious injury to perhaps a dozen. Jeff Davis, a negro, was instantly killed, three of his family injured and their house demolished. Wiley Landers, a prominent white farmer, his wife and son, were injured. Ham Brown, a white man is reported to have had both legs broken. Other houses have been wrecked, and much damage done to property and valuable timber is reported.
