“Mrs. Dot” — as many of us knew her, was a true gem for the Start/Richland Parish community. Like many others, I am so genuinely thankful to be counted as one of her former students. She was always a warm and loving person, while at the same time expecting great order and structure when it came time to hit the books.
I remember being “disciplined firmly” by her on only two occasions (and I’m sure as a 2nd Grader, I deserved more.) Once because I was talking too much, and once because I was on the classroom floor, barking like a dog. I still probably talk too much, but I can honestly say she nipped my “dog barking” escapades in the bud. Don’t think I’ve ever been caught howling like a dog since.
What I remember most however, was her big hugs and great big smile. She and Dr. Adams both have always been respected and admired even beyond those that have known them personally. Her community, family, and friends will all miss her, and my prayers and thoughts are with everyone as they reflect on the countless fond memories of her lifetime and legacy.
