Richland Parish History in Photos, a group on Flickr.
Here is a cumulation of several old Richland Parish photos I’ve come across over the years.
I’ve created it on flickr as a group, so that others can contribute their own collection.
Enjoy!

Great pictures!! Maybe you can help. I am trying to find my great grandfather, William Dolphus Nelson, died in 1942 or 49. They tell me he was buried in the area of Start, Rayville, Mangum….no one seems to know or want to share…We took a trip to the area but had no luck at the Cemetaries we checked. There was also a “Toot n Tell” Cafe. Any knowledge of that? Would enjoy hearing what you might find.

Not familiar with a TootNTell cafe. But after looking into it, it looks like there is a record showing your great-grandfather's burial at New Salem Cemetery in Richland Parish, located in an area known as Girard, north of the Start community. He is listed as William Adolphus Nelson and his death date says October 24, 1949. The inscription on the back of the tombstone reads: There Shall Be No Night There; Children: Lester, Mary Evelyn, Myrl, Ervin, Ernest.
New Salem is an old cemetery and is a pretty place, located off of Hwy 133. Here is a link to a map of its location. https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=new+salem+cemetery+richland+parish&client=safari&ie=UTF-8&ei=oI_dUPeRHISuqgHF1YCoAQ&sqi=2&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAA
My grandather and grandmother are also buried here.
Thank you for the history. I have also been trying to find my roots of my family who left me no information except they were from Richland and Rayville Louisiana.
Please will you keep me updated.
Family name is Boughton.
