Old Mount Zion Cemetery

Recently, while driving a long the banks of Boeuf River over the Christmas holidays, I spotted a cemtery, and as I went to look it up online, I could find little, to nothing about it. So of course, I had to pull over and investigate further.Cemetery notes and/or description:
This appears to be an African-American cemetery, located in Girard, Louisiana, just off the banks of Boeuf River. The cemetery is in fairly poor condition, but there are some fairly recent burials here as well. Many of the headstones have been broken, but there were several that were over 100 years old.

The road to the cemetery is just to the West of what looks to be an old dairy farm. The ground around the road leading to the cemetery is extremely soft, and I became stuck and was almost unable to get out, save that I had a four-wheel drive truck. I would suggest parking on Scales road and walking.

A sign here states that the cemetery is seeking donations to help with cleanup, etc, and the name listed on the sign is a Rev. Bobby Washington.
I started a find-a-grave page for the cemetery, and perhaps as time allows, I can go back and transcribe the names. The cemetery page is located at and the GPS coordinates of the cemetery are Interactive map and GPS data:GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 32.50892, Longitude: -91.80064
